Bill is Of Counsel in PennStuart’s Abingdon, Virginia office and is a member of the firm’s Insurance Defense and Professional Liability practice group. Bill enjoys golf and traveling abroad with his family. He and his son have enjoyed their trips to the golf courses of Scotland.
Bill’s career of more than 40 years has been devoted to litigation in state and federal courts throughout Virginia. He has tried more than 100 jury trials and resolved many cases via mediation and arbitration proceedings. He has handled the defense of many complex and catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases. He has extensive experience in the defense of professional liability claims, both legal and medical. He also has extensive experience in the defense of nursing homes and long term care facilities and their employees. He has represented several health care professionals in licensure matters before the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
Most recently, Bill’s practice has focused on the handling of plaintiff’s personal injury and medical malpractice cases. He has successfully obtained many multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of injured persons and their families.
Bill is a strong proponent of attorney professionalism and ethics and has served for more than 20 years as part of the Virginia State Bar’s attorney disciplinary system including as Chair of the Disciplinary Board which is charged with handling the most serious cases of lawyer misconduct. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Virginia State Bar Council, the governing body of the VSB.
