Danny serves as Of Counsel in PennStuart’s Abingdon, Virginia office, where he is a member of the firm’s Litigation practice group. Danny focuses his practice on white-collar criminal defense and government investigations, professional licensure investigations, and military law including court-martial defense and administrative and criminal investigations.
Danny is an experienced litigator who has tried over 80 cases in federal and military courts. Prior to joining PennStuart, Danny served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia where he prosecuted cases involving wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud and conspiracies to defraud the federal government. Danny also prosecuted cases involving drug and weapons trafficking conspiracies, child sexual exploitation, insurance fraud, and emergency/disaster relief fraud. Danny has extensive experience working with various state and federal investigative agencies.
Prior to serving as a federal prosecutor, Danny spent 20 years as an officer in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Danny served in various legal advisor roles over 15 years as a Judge Advocate culminating as a senior advisor to The Judge Advocate General and Deputy Judge Advocate General of the United States Army. Danny was selected to serve as the senior legal advisor for several Department of Defense investigations, including a complex investigation into combat deaths in western Africa and other investigations into allegations of human rights abuses by partner forces. Danny has extensive experience in complex litigation and has tried over 40 sexual assault cases before general courts-martial. While serving as a Special Victim Prosecutor responsible for prosecuting sexual assaults and violent felony offenses, Danny was recognized as the #1 trial attorney in the United States Army.
Adept at navigating complex, high-visibility investigations, Danny provides principled legal counsel to his clients. Danny counsels his clients by identifying legal risks and developing practical solutions under time-critical conditions. A skilled trial lawyer, Danny is at his best litigating his client’s case before a judge and jury.
A native of Northern Virginia, Danny, and his family moved to Abingdon in 2020. Whether on the ball fields, on the lake, playing golf, or hiking in beautiful southwest Virginia, Danny is happiest spending time with his wife, two sons, and Labrador retriever.
