William M. Moffet is an Officer in PennStuart’s Abingdon, Virginia office. He also serves as a manager of the firm’s Insurance Defense practice group. Mr. Moffet has spent his entire career handling litigation in state and federal courts. He has extensive experience handling attorney and medical malpractice claims. He also has extensive experience in insurance coverage, personal injury and commercial litigation.
Mr. Moffet is a strong proponent of attorney professionalism. He has volunteered more than 13 years on various committees responsible for the administration of the attorney disciplinary system in Virginia. He served four years on the Virginia State Bar Ninth District Committee. He served two years on the Virginia State Bar Committee on Lawyer Discipline. In 1995, he was appointed by the Virginia Supreme Court to the Disciplinary Board. He served on the Disciplinary Board for seven years, the last three as Second Vice Chair, First Vice Chair and Chair. In addition, he has given numerous lectures on attorney ethics and the disciplinary system.
In 2004, Mr. Moffet was selected to be a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation,
an honor limited to no more than one-third of one percent of the lawyers in each state. In 2011, he was elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates. Membership in the ABOTA is limited to attorneys who have tried at least 50 jury trials to verdict as first chair.
In 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Mr. Moffet was selected by Law & Politics to be
listed in the Virginia Super Lawyers Magazine.
Mr. Moffet has held an AV rating in Martindale-Hubbell for many years.
