Stephen M. Hodges is an Officer in PennStuart's Abingdon, Virginia office. His career with PennStuart began with an emphasis on litigation, but as the energy industry grew in Southwestern Virginia, the focus of his practice turned to natural resources law. Mr. Hodges now represents coal companies, gas companies, utilities and other business interests in a broad array of transactional matters and litigation, appearing before state and federal trial and appellate courts and administrative agencies.
Mr. Hodges has extensive experience in matters involving commercial litigation, contracts, environmental regulation, safety, employment, coal sales, contract mining and leasing, and labor. He has represented the extractive industries and corporations in significant business arrangements, acquisitions and transactions as well. He counsels creditors in business litigation and bankruptcy, and public utilities in condemnation cases.
Mr. Hodges served as an attorney in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the United States Army prior to coming to PennStuart in 1972. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
